BLACKSBURG, Va. - After capping off another successful season, the awards keep rolling in for several Hokie softball players. Michelle Meadows, Clarisa Crowell, Bronwyn Blair and Ashlee Dobbe have all been named to the Virginia Sports Information Director's (VaSID) All-State Team as announced Tuesday. Meadows was named the Co-Player of the Year while Crowell became the first player ever to make the team at two different positions.
Meadows, a senior from Richmond, Va., made the team for the third time in her four-year career. The second baseman also was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, First-Team All-Northeast Region and a GTE First-Team Academic All-American. She led the team with a .324 batting average and holds numerous Tech record including hits and games played. She was named Co-Player of the Year along with Meredith Hollyfield of Liberty.
Crowell makes the team as both an outfielder and a pitcher, becoming the first player in state history to make the team at two positions in the same year. She set a school record for home runs in a season with nine and batted .296. On the mound, she posted a 20-8 record with 153 strikeouts and a 1.48 ERA. She was All-Atlantic 10 as an outfielder and made the all-state team last year as a pitcher.
Dobbe makes her second appearance in as many years on the team as a pitcher. As a sophomore, Dobbe went 19-11 with and ERA of 1.43. She led the Atlantic 10 in strikeouts with 203 and was all-conference for the second consecutive year. She also was an All-Northeast Region Second-Team selection and was named to the All-District III Academic team.
Blair makes her second appearance on the team in three years after making the squad as a freshman. This season, the All-Atlantic 10 and First-Team All-Northeast Region selection led the team in hits (65) and stolen bases (13). She started every game in center field and committed just one error all season.
Also making the team for the second consecutive year is head coach Scot Thomas. Thomas led the Hokies to a 41-22 record, including a perfect 10-0 mark against in-state teams.
