RALEIGH, N.C. - A two-RBI double in the third inning by catcher Kelsey Hoffman was the difference as the 24th-ranked Virginia Tech softball team completed a three-game sweep with a 2-0 win over NC State Saturday afternoon at Dail Stadium.

After putting runners on in both the first and second innings but failing to plate a run, Tech finally broke through in the third inning. Jess Hodge reached on an error and Jenna Rhodes reached on a bunt single. With two outs, Hoffman ripped the first pitch she saw to deep center field for a two-RBI double.

NC State made things interesting, putting runners on second and third with no one out, but Angela Tincher didn't panic and promptly struck out the next three batters to quiet the Wolfpack faithful and end the game.

Tincher (W, 15-4) made more history Saturday, picking up her 100th career win. The Eagle Rock, Va., native went the distance, allowing no runs on two hits with 17 more strikeouts.

Tincher capped off a sensational 4-0 week in the circle. She pitched 24.2 innings, allowing no runs on just eight hits and striking out an astounding 58 batters. She tossed a three-hit shutout against No. 11 Houston and no-hit NC State in the first game of the weekend series.

Tech hit the ball hard, but State's defense robbed several hits. Rhodes and Beth Walker each had two hits to lead the way. Erin Ota and Hoffman each had one hit.

Tech will travel across the fruited plain to Oklahoma City for an exhibition game against the U.S. National Softball Team on Wednesday. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., Eastern, 6:30 Central. The game we be televised on ESPN2 on a tape-delayed basis on May 6 at 7 p.m.
