BLACKSBURG - The 21st-ranked Virginia Tech softball team completed a three-game sweep of the University of Virginia with a pair of wins Sunday afternoon at Tech Softball Park, winning 3-0 and 7-1.

Behind a one-hit gem from Angela Tincher, the Hokies took game one Sunday, 3-0. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Tech finally broke through after failing on several earlier chances. Misty Hall reached on an error and moved up on Jessica Everhart's single to center field. Both moved up a base on Beth Walker's fly out to right field and then Hall had to work some magic to score a run. Whitney Davis tried to plate Hall with a suicide squeeze, but missed, leaving Hall out to dry. But when UVa catcher Alison Pittman tried to throw her out, the ball hit Hall square in the back and Hall turned around and stumbled home for the run.

In the fifth inning, Erin Ota laced a triple to right field and scored on Charisse Mariconda's sacrifice fly. The final run came in the sixth inning when Everhart launched a home run to left-center field - her third of the year.

Tincher was dominating in the game, allowing just a hit in the third inning with a walk and 15 strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work to pick up her 19th win of the season. Heather Lowry picked up her first save of the season by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

At the plate, Everhart had three hits to lead the way. Walker, Ota, Kelsey Hoffman and Jenna Rhodes each had one hit.

In the second game, the Hokies struck quickly when Mariconda blasted a two-run home run down the left-field line in the first inning. UVa responded with a solo home run by Carly Winger off Tech starter Kenzie Roark in the second inning. In the third inning, the Cavs loaded the bases with just one out, forcing Tech head coach to make a call to the bullpen to bring Tincher in. She induced a feeble infield fly and then sent Lauren McCaskey back to the bench via the punchout to end the threat.

Tech slowly started to break it open from that point on. An RBI single by Whitney Davis plated Hall in the fourth inning and Tech scored three runs in the fifth inning. Rhodes scored on Mariconda's single up the middle and eventually scored on Hoffman's double to the gap. Hoffman came around to touch the dish on Hall's double.

Tech got its final run in the sixth inning when freshman walk-on Alicia Field picked up her first collegiate hit, a single up the middle to drive in Lowry.

Mariconda had three hits and three RBI while Rhodes, Hoffman and Hall each had two. Field and Davis each had one hit in the win.

Roark went 2.1 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits with a strikeout. Tincher improved to 20-4 with 4.2 innings of no-hit ball, striking out 11.

Tincher was luminous all weekend, going 3-0 in 17.2 innings of work. She allowed no runs on just two hits with 40 strikeouts. The Eagle Rock, Va., native was frugal in her free passes, allowing just one walk in the series. With the three wins this weekend, she now has 105 for her career and needs just five more victories to break the ACC career victories mark of 109 set by Georgia Tech's Jessica Sallinger.

Tech (28-10, 10-2 ACC) will step out of conference play Wednesday for a doubleheader with Longwood (20-13) starting at 5 o'clock at Tech Softball Park.
