CLEARWATER, Fla. – Behind a stellar effort in the circle from Kenzie Roark and timely hitting, the Virginia Tech softball team broke its losing streak with an impressive 4-0 win over Chattanooga Friday afternoon on the first day of the USF Under Armour Invitational.

A scoreless game until the sixth inning, freshman Bkaye Smith singled up the middle and stole second base and scored on Ashton Ward’s single to right field. But the Hokies weren’t done as freshman Courtney Liddle later crushed a three-run home run to left field, her fifth of the season to make it 4-0.

That would be more than enough for Roark, who pitched perhaps the best game of her career. The junior allowed just one infield hit and struck out a career-high 10 batters while issuing no walks.

At the plate, Davis, Liddle, Ward and Smith had the hits for the Hokies.

Tech will look to build on the momentum later Friday night with a 7 o’clock game against Boston University.
