BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Virginia Tech softball team wrapped up its Spring Break trip with a pair of losses Sunday morning at the FAU Parents’ Weekend Tournament. The Hokies opened with a 3-2 loss to Jacksonville before falling to Charleston Southern, 6-0.

Tech jumped out to a quick 1-0 in the first inning over Jacksonville, scoring on an error, but left the bases loaded to end the threat. Jacksonville responded, scoring a pair of runs in the second inning and one more in the fourth on a solo home run. Tech didn’t threaten again until the seventh inning when Kristen Froehlich and Kelsey Hensel recorded back-to-back doubles to plate a run, but failed to score the tying run when a suicide squeeze was played perfectly by the Dolphins. At the plate, the Hokies had five hits, two coming from Hensel, and one from Froehlich, Bkaye Smithand Richelle McGarva.

Kenzie Roark (L, 2-9) went just three innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Jasmin Harrell pitched the final four innings, giving up two singles while striking out four.

The second game didn’t start much better as Harrell gave up two hard singles and then a big home run in the first inning to quickly put the Hokies in a 3-0 deficit. Charleston Southern added two more in the fifth inning on a home run and another unearned run to take a 6-0 lead. Tech couldn’t get anything going as it wrapped up Spring Break with a 3-6 tally.

Picking up the hits for the Hokies were Courtney Liddle, Ashton Ward, McGarva and Smith.

Harrell (L, 5-5) lasted just an inning, giving up three runs on four hits. Roark went the final five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with four strikeouts.

After 11 days on the road, Tech will take the week off before opening ACC play next weekend at NC State in a three-game set. The two will play a 1 o’clock doubleheader on Saturday in Raleigh before playing the single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
