RADFORD, Va. - Behind a stellar performance from Jasmin Harrell in the circle and two early home runs, the Virginia Tech softball team rolled past Radford, 5-0, Tuesday evening at Dedmon Center Field to sweep the season series.

The Hokies broke out the big sticks early, using back-to-back solo home runs from Courtney Liddle and Kelsey Mericka to take a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. It marks the second straight game the Hokies have hit consecutive home runs as they did it against Virginia as well (Mericka and Betty Rose).

After a quiet next four innings, Tech finally broke through again in the sixth stanza. Rose drew a walk and moved up a base on a wild pitch before scoring on Marra Hvozdovic's single that just caught the paint down the left field line. The Hokies would plate two more runs in the inning when Radford's shortstop committed two errors on the same play to allow Hvozdovic and Kat Banks to score, making it 5-0.

Mericka led the way with a pair of extra-base hits (home run, double) while Liddle and Hvozdovic had the other two hits. In two games against the Highlanders this year, Tech had just eight combined hits, but scored 14 runs thanks to six errors, six hit batters and 12 walks by Radford in the two games.

Harrell (W, 24-11) was spectacular in picking up the win as she retired 16 Radford batters in a row at one point. She went the distance, allowing no runs on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Tech (35-16) will return to conference play this weekend, traveling to Atlanta for a three-game set at Georgia Tech. The two will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., followed by the single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
