BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech softball team earned an at-large berth in the 2014 NCAA Softball Championship, as announced Sunday night on ESPNU. The Hokies will face Lipscomb in the first round of the Knoxville Regional and will be joined by Charleston Southern and 10th-seeded and host Tennessee in the regional to be held at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium on Tennessee’s campus.

Tech will enter the tournament with a 35-21 record after reaching the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.

Lipscomb is 39-13 on the year and received an at-large bid out of the Atlantic Sun. Tennessee, from the SEC, is 42-10 overall while Charleston Southern is 27-31-1, but won the Big South Conference Tournament. Tech lost to Lipscomb 2-1 in early February on a walk-off home run.

This will be Tech’s seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament and third in a row. Four of the previous six appearances were in Knoxville, Tenn., while the others were in Columbus, Ohio (2007) and Lexington, Ky. (2013).
