Spirit squads to hold exhibitions this weekend
Tech will compete in NCA/NDA Nationals on April 12-14
April 2, 2012
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech spirit squads will host two performances at Cassell Coliseum on Saturday, April 7 at 5:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 8 at 3 p.m., before competing for the NCA/NDA National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., on April 12-14.

“This has been an amazing year because our juniors and seniors have come together to lead both teams,” Tech Spirit Coach Rickey Hill said. “The talent is great – but hardwork, repect, and dedication is something that I would rather have more than anything. This year I have it all and I owe it all to an amazing coaching staff and some amazing seniors who wanted to make a change in the program, leave their mark, and prepare the underclass for the upcoming season."

The squads will be performing their national routines in an exhibition on Saturday for the general public at 5:30 p.m., and again on Sunday at 3 p.m., in Cassell Coliseum, before leaving for Daytona Beach on April 10. The cheer squad, HighTechs and HokieBird will be performing.

The NCA/NDA National Championships will take place on April 12-14 at the Daytona Beach Convention Center and Band Shell. The Championships are made up of seven dance divisions and 11 cheer divisions. The divisions separate teams by designation of All-Girl or Coed, skill level, university enrollment (Division I, IA, or II), Junior College, or International. Tech is one of seven Division IA cheer squads and 14 Division IA dance squads competing next weekend. Championship winners are also awarded for Partner Stunts, Group Stunts and Mascot at Stunt Fest Mania on Saturday.

The preliminary competitions at the National Championships will begin on April 12, with the HighTechs performing at 3:25 p.m., and the cheer squad competing at 4:49 p.m. Finals for both squads will be held on April 13. The dance finals are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., while the cheer finals are set for 12:30 p.m. The mascot finals will be held at 10 a.m. on April 14.
