Mike Bangtson enters his first season with the Virginia Tech football program where he will work with the offense as a graduate assistant.

Prior to joining the Hokies, Bangtson was a graduate assistant under current Tech head coach Justin Fuente at Memphis where he also worked with the offensive unit. Bangtson joined the Memphis coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach at Upper Iowa University and as a graduate assistant at Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats went 15-0 and captured the Division II National Championship with Bangtson on the staff in 2013.

The Cedar Falls, Iowa native got his start in coaching as a student assistant at Iowa State after injuries ended his playing days. Bangtson assisted the offensive coaching staff for three seasons in Ames, helping lead the Cyclones to back-to-back bowl berths in 2011 and 2012.

Bangtson earned his bachelor’s degree in communications studies from Iowa State in 2012.
