Mike Burnop Network Analyst

Virginia Tech Hall of Famer Mike Burnop is serving his 32nd season in the booth as the network analyst. Burnop was a star tight end for the Hokies in the early 1970s and still holds the Virginia Tech record for receptions in a season by a tight end with 46.

Burnop had an outstanding playing career on the Hokies' high scoring offenses of the early 70's teaming up with star quarterback Don Strock. "Mike Burnop was one of the most sure-handed receivers I ever played with during my entire career, in college or the NFL," Strock said. "We threw the ball a lot back in those days and Mike could block like a tackle or get down the field and get open. He'd catch any ball I threw."

"As a broadcaster, Mike does a great job because he grew up playing the game and fans can believe him and what he says because he's been there," Strock said.

Burnop was a star athlete in football and basketball at Roanoke Catholic High School in Roanoke, Va. He graduated from Virgnia Tech in 1973 and received his Master's Degree from Virginia Tech in 1975.

In 1986, Burnop returned to the Tech football program as the analyst on Tech football broadcasts, and hasn't missed a game since. He and Bill Roth form one of college sports longest-running broadcasting teams having worked every Tech game dating back to the 1988 season. He was induced into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

Burnop is a popular speaker at events throughout Virginia, including Hokie Club, regional sports clubs, Alumni Associations and other functions.

Mike owns New River Office Supply, with offices in Blacksburg, Pearisburg, and Salem, Va. An active member of the Blacksburg Rotary Club, Burnop has been named Blacksburg's Businessman of the Year. An outstanding tennis player, Mike can usually be found on the courts at Tech's Burrows-Burrelson Tennis Complex, or at the courts at the Blacksburg Country Club. Mike and his late wife Ellen are the proud parents of Greg, Jenna, and Erin who all enjoy family vacations on the white sandy beaches of Destin, Florida.
