Responsibilities: Gwinn oversees specific areas within compliance, including the athlete agent program, amateurism, coaches recruiting certification, initial eligibility evaluation, NCAA waiver requests, on-campus recruiting visits, personnel limitations, student-athlete reinstatement, student-athlete outside competition, rules education, student-athlete advisory committee contact, awards and benefits, and the compliance website. Additionally, Gwinn was appointed as an athletic department senior representative for Virginia Tech's Inclusive VT that assists in advancing diversity climate and culture related issues across campus.

At Virginia Tech: Gwinn has revamped and expanded the rules education program as well as the athlete agent program. He also has assisted with the implementation of the Jumpforward recruiting monitoring system, and serves as the compliance liaison with the student-athlete advisory committee. He is responsible for maintaining and updating Virginia Tech's policies and procedures along with the compliance website.
Prior to Virginia Tech: Gwinn oversaw the entire compliance operation as the Associate AD for Compliance at Marshall University for six years before coming to Tech. He started his career in compliance as a graduate assistant at Marshall from 2003-05 before landing his first full-time job at Ohio University in 2005. He was the compliance coordinator at Ohio from 2005-07.

Of Note: Gwinn is an active member of NAAC (National Association of Athletics Compliance).
Personal: Gwinn grew up on an 800-acre farm along the Greenbrier River in Pence Springs, W.Va., and attended Greenbrier East High School. He currently lives in Christiansburg, Va., and enjoys singing, traveling, participating in various outdoor sports and spending time with the family.
