Responsibilities: Gwinn oversees specific areas within compliance, including the athlete agent program, amateurism, coaches recruiting certification, initial eligibility evaluation, NCAA waiver requests, student-athlete reinstatement, student-athlete outside competition, rules education, student-athlete advisory committee contact, awards and benefits, and the compliance website.

At Virginia Tech: Gwinn has taken over the rules education program as well as the athlete agent program. He also has assisted with the implementation of the Jumpforward recruiting monitoring system, and he serves as the compliance liaison with the student-athlete advisory committee. He updates Virginia Tech’s policies and procedures along with the compliance website.
Prior to Virginia Tech: Gwinn serves as the associate AD for compliance at Marshall University for six years before coming to Tech. He started his career in compliance as a graduate assistant at Marshall from 2003-05 before landing his first full-time job at Ohio University in 2005. He was the compliance coordinator at Ohio from 2005-07.
Education: Marshall University, 2003 (bachelor of fine arts); Marshall University, 2005 (masters of business administration).
Of Note: Gwinn is an active member of NAAC (National Association of Athletics Compliance).
Personal: Gwinn grew up in Pence Springs, W.Va., and attended Greenbrier East High School. He currently lives in Pearisburg, Va., and enjoys traveling and playing both golf and disc golf.
