Jamerson Athletic Center
165 Spring Rd.
Blacksburg, VA 24061
Responsibilities: Parker’s primary function is to manage the department’s on-going efforts to maintain full compliance with NCAA and ACC regulations.
Joined VT Staff: 1997
At Virginia Tech: While at Virginia Tech, Parker has directed the expansion of the compliance office staff from two to five members. In his position, he routinely assesses risk and allocates resources, while also serving as a valuable resource for many constituencies on campus and throughout the Hokie Nation. The department’s primary liaison with the NCAA Office in Indianapolis, Parker leads campus discussions regarding the work of various NCAA committees and groups, as well as pending NCAA legislation. Perhaps most importantly, he helps to ensure that Virginia Tech’s coaches have the information they need to make sound decisions whenever NCAA or ACC regulations come into play.
Prior to Virginia Tech: Parker came to Tech after serving as the associate executive director of the Patriot League from 1995-1997. Prior to that, he worked as an assistant commissioner in the Mid-American Conference (1992-95). He also served as the assistant director of communications and compliance in the now-defunct Metro Conference, a position he held from 1988-92.
Education: Lynchburg College, 1987 (B.A. in communications); Richmond, 1991 (master’s in sport management).
Personal: A native of West Point, Va., Parker lives in Blacksburg, where he plays drums in two local bands. His other hobbies include astronomy, tennis and old-time radio shows. He and wife Michelle are the parents of three children. His son, Trevor, is a recent graduate of Virginia Tech, while his daughter, Megan, is a student at Appalachian State. His youngest child, Mitch, is in elementary school in Christiansburg.
