Responsibilities: Sours provides the web design for Hokie Sports Weekly and fan pages for various sports. He also designs printed publications, such as the football and women’s basketball media guides, football programs and tickets, as well as Olympic sports posters. He utilizes his illustration skills to create items, such as the logo for the HokieBirdie Golf Classic.

Prior to Virginia Tech: Sours has worked as a graphic designer for more than 30 years. Duties have ranged from painting planetarium panoramas for The Science Museum of Western Virginia to creating and testing large commercial websites. Working for a commercial printer, Sours garnered extensive knowledge of the printing process. At WPI, in the Corporate Research Center, he designed products for clients, including the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. Upon WPI’s closing in 2006, Sours ran his own full-time design business for the five years. Just prior to joining Virginia Tech athletics communications, he worked as a graphic/web designer at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM).
Education: University of South Florida, 1979 (B.A. in art)
Personal: A native of Roanoke, Va., Sours and his wife, MaryAnne, moved to Montgomery County in 1987 and currently reside in Christiansburg. Their daughter, Nomeka, a graduate of Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business, now works in Pamplin as an event coordinator for the college. Their son, Billy, is currently a senior in the graphic design program at Radford University.
