Swimmers Compete at Sun Devil Invitational
Milfeit wins 500 freestyle

TEMPE, Ariz. ÷ The Virginia Tech men's and women's swimming teams competed in the Sun Devil Invitational Saturday as part of their Holiday Training trip. Selected members of the men's and women's teams swam in exhibition events against Arizona State and Wyoming.
For the Hokies Erin Milfeit won the women's 500 freestyle event with a time of 5:04.04. She finished ahead of eight ASU swimmers and three Wyoming swimmers to claim the race. Lindsey Tew finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:10.22. In the 50 freestyle, Jill Turner placed second with a time of 25.05. Debbie Sticha finished second in the mixed 1,650 freestyle, finishing behind Ryan Typolt of Wyoming. Both the men's and women's 200 freestyle-relay teams placed second.
On the men's side, Gregg Doul placed third in the menās 500 freestyle. He swam the race in 4:46.89. Troy Hoff finished fourth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:56.87.
The Hokies return to action on Jan. 15, traveling to Harrisonburg for a dual meet with James Madison. Tech returns home on Jan. 22 for its final home meet, swimming against N.C. State at 1 p.m.
