Hokies Drop Two at Pittsburgh
Turner a double winner

PITTSBURGH - Jill Turner was a double winner on the women's side and several men won individual events, but it wasn't enough as both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams dropped dual meets to Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon at Trees Pool. The women dropped to 7-3 on the year with a 132.5-110.5 loss while the men fell to 5-3 with a 132-111 loss to the Panthers.
Turner won two individual events and was on a winning relay team to highlight the women's day. The senior from Newark, Del., won the 200 freestyle (1:50.36) and the 100 freestyle (51.15) before teaming up with Emily Guschke, Jamie Trivett and Whitney Johnsen to win the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.85.
Also winning for the women were Robin Wood in the three-meter dive (227.40) and Katie Grossi in the one-meter dive with a score of 216.97.
On the men's side, freshman Anders Frahm had a big day for the Hokies. He won the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.53 and teamed up with Steve Tozer, Kevin Furlong and Casey Moore to win the 200 medley relay event with a time of 1:31.02.
In the 100 backstroke, the Hokies earned a clean sweep, taking first, second and third place. Tozer won the event in 50.38 while Frahm took second and Christian Lindberg placed third.
Other winners for the men were Joey Piekarski in the 200 IM (1:52.51) and Furlong in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.66.
Both teams will take a break before heading to Long Island, N.Y., for the BIG EAST Championships, to be held Feb. 20-22.
