Swimming Team Names New Head Coach

Skinner to coach both men's and women's programs.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Ned Skinner, who has headed men's and women's swim programs at both William & Mary and Central Connecticut State, has been named the head men's and women's swimming coach at Virginia Tech.

Skinner comes to Tech after four seasons as the head swim coach for men and women at William & Mary. He was named the the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women's Coach of the Year after guiding the Tribe women to a second-place finish among 40 teams in the 1998 ECAC Championships. The women's team finished in the top 12 at the ECAC event during each of Skinner's four seasons.

The W&M men's team posted a fourth-place showing in the '98 ECAC Championships and finished seventh in 1997. During Skinner's tenure, both the men's and women's squads were named Academic All-America Teams four straight years.

Skinner, who was captain of LSU's 1988 Southeastern Conference Championship swim team, began his coaching career in 1989 as a graduate assistant at Ohio University. He was named head coach for men and women at Central Connecticut State in 1990.
