Hokies Come Up With Wins in Dual Meets
Tech men, women down Villanova

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech swimming & diving teams posted victories Sunday afternoon over Villanova at War Memorial Pool with the women coming out with a 135-108 win while the men rolled to a 139-91 win. With the victories, the women move to 4-3 while the men move to 4-2.
On the women's side, the diving squad came up huge in a close meet. Claire Jakabcin won both the one- and three-meter diving events while Jen Urbach took second in both events, scoring 26 points between the two. Other individual winners were: Mason Walsh (50 free, 24.25), Emily Guschke (100 free, 53.32) and Jen Brielmaier (200 breast, 2:22.89).
The 400 medley relay team of Katy Peterson, Brielmaier, Erin Tarpey and Guschke won with a time of 3:54.88. The 400 freestyle relay team of Walsh, Laura Campbell, Sarah Gardner and Guschke won with a time of 3:33.72.
The score was tied at 94 all before Jakabcin, Brielmaier and the 400 freestyle relay team captured victories to seal the win.
On the men's side, the Hokies rolled to an easy victory, winning every event. Gus Calado, David Szabo and Doug Roper were all double winners for the Hokies. Calado won the 1,000 freestyle and 200 backstroke. Szabo took the 200 and 500 freestyle events, while Roper won both the one- and three-meter diving events.
Other winners in individual events were: Tom Alberi (50 free, 21.78), Neil Savage (200 IM, 1:57.27), Stephen Jensen (200 fly, 1:57.62), Aaron Sherman (100 free, 47.88) and Kevin Furlong (200 breast, 2:10.34).
The 400 medley relay team of Christian DeLollo, David Litchfield, Christian Lindberg and Tommy Evans won with a time of 3:32.09 while the 400 freestyle relay team of Sherman, Joey Piekarski, Casey Moore and Lindberg won with a time of 3:11.71.
Villanova's Becky Koch set two pool records on the day. She set a new mark in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.10 and then came back to establish a new mark in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 4:54.08. The Wildcat women drop to 3-1 while the men fall to 0-4.
Both Tech squads will be back in action on Nov. 20-22, participating in the Nike Cup at Chapel Hill, N.C.
