BLACKSBURG, Va. - Senior diver Laura Lunn (Regina, Sask.) will participate in the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships, beginning Friday in Lexington, Ky.
This marks the second consecutive season that the Virginia Tech senior has been selected to compete in the Zone B Diving Championships, which includes divers from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference. Last year, Lunn placed 13th in the platform diving event and tied for 20th in three-meter diving.
"Laura Lunn has without a doubt helped us move forward and taken this program to new levels," Tech diving coach Bert Locklin said. "After her strong finish at the ACC Championships, we look forward to seeing her compete in the Zone Diving Championships."
To qualify for the Zone Diving Championships, which take place in five geographical regions, divers needed to earn a score of 265 in one-meter competition or 280 in three-meter competition during the season. Participants in the diving championships are looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships, which take place the following weekend in Athens, Ga.
Lunn is the Virginia Tech record-holder in three-meter diving (297.85) and platform diving (388.85). She recorded a season-high score of 269.17 in one-meter competition at NC State on Oct. 28, and a career-best score of 297.85 in three-meter competition at the Nike Cup in November. In her only platform exhibition of the year, she posted a score of 197.95 to place fourth at the ACC Championships on Feb. 18.
