McDonald earns ACC weekly honors

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech diver Mikey McDonald was one of three swimmers and divers to be named the ACC Performer of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2007.
A freshman hailing form Annandale, Va., McDonald earned the honor after breaking the school and War Memorial Pool records on both the 1- and 3-meter boards in Tech's win over Washington & Lee and VMI, Saturday. On the 3-meter, his score of 414.83 was nearly 14 points above any other diver and qualified for the NCAA Zone championships. On the 1-meter, he recorded 363.15 points for his second win of the meet and a second Zone championship score.
McDonald has claimed the school record on the 3-meter four times this season, while breaking the pool record in the same event three times. On the 1-meter, he has smashed the school and pool marks three times, as well. His score on the 3-meter is currently the highest score in the ACC.
The Hokies currently have a two week break before heading to the 2007 ACC Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C., Feb. 21-24.
