Beard finishes in top 20
The junior swims to a 47.45 finish

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech men's swimmer, Scott Beard, took a top 20 finish at the 2007 Men's Swimming and Diving NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., Friday. The event started March 15 and ends March 17.
Beard touched the wall in 47.45 in the 100-yard butterfly. The finish gave the Chesterfield, Va., native the No. 20 spot. The finish was only five-hundredths of a second from the top time this season for the team. Gus Calado joined Beard in the event, stopping the clock at 47.84, his fastest time this season. The finish earned him the 30th spot.
The championships conclude tomorrow, with preliminary qualifying starting at 11 a.m., CT. Calado will be the only Hokie racing. His event is the 200-yard butterfly. Complete championship information is available on Minnesota's website, www.gophersports.com.
