Botzum, who broke her own record time of 1:00.73 set at last year's NCAAs, also helped Jordan McHorney, Megan Newell and Sara Smith place 16th in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.11 to earn All-America honorable mention honors for the second day in a row. The squad will look to score points later tonight for the H2Okies.
Newell had a remarkable swim in the 100 butterfly as she crushed her own school record time with a 53.45 to finish 20th, just missing out on a top-16 spot for the finals by .14 seconds. Newell's previous best time was 54.22, set at the 2007 Nike Cup.
A day after snapping the 10-year-old ACC record in the 50 free, Smith participated in the 100 fly, finishing with a career-best time of 54.66 to place 45th out of 57 competitors.
The Day 2 finals begin at 7 p.m. H2Okie fans can view the live coverage provided at http://www.ncaa.com/swimming-womens/default.aspx?id=460.
