Track and Field Head to George Mason
Men and women kick off 2003 indoor season

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's and women's track and field teams officially kick off the 2003 indoor season, as they travel to George Mason for the Father Diamond Invitational to be held Saturday in Fairfax, Va. There are 49 schools slated to compete Saturday, including in-state foes James Madison, Liberty, Virginia and host George Mason.

Both Tech teams have several strong returners along with talented groups of newcomers. The Hokie men return a solid core of starters to provide a young team with veteran leadership. Top returners for the men include: distance runners David Atkiss (Hatfield, Pa.) and Casey Frazier (Woodbridge, Va.); sprinters Buck Grant (Centreville, Va.) and Adam Jury (Catskill, N.Y.); and pole vaulters Brian Mondschein (Hummelstown, Pa.) and Marcus Tepaske (Freehold, N.J.).

On the women's side, Tech returns several all-conference performers. Top returning women include: hurdler Danielle Gaddy (Brooklyn, N.Y.); throwers Christy Herman (Xenia, Ohio), Ronny-Marie Martin (Absecon, N.J.), and January Williams (Burke, Va.); distance runners Michelle VanHorn (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.) and Stacey Vidt (Allison Park, Pa.); and sprinter Monique Vanloo (Scarbrough, Ontario) .

The meet begins at 11:00 a.m. and concludes with the men's 4x400 relay scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
