Hokies Track and Field shows well in Lexington
Hay breaks her own school record in the 200
| February 2, 2002 The Virginia Tech track and field team had one of their best meets of the season this weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial at the University of Kentucky. Damali Hay and January Williams led the women while Giff Hummel and Eric Necciai had solid performances on the men's side. Hay broke her own school record in the 200 with a time of 24.63, good for third place. She also took sixth place in the 100 with a 7.64, just off her school record time of 7.61. January Williams continued her superb season, claiming second place in the shot put with a season best mark of 48'09.5. She has improved her top mark every meet this season. Stacey Vidt improved her team season best time in the 3,000 with a 10:03.79, nearly nine seconds better than the previous mark. Kim Milbourn had another top ten performance for the Hokies, taking sixth place in the mile. In all, the women had ten marks in the top ten. Hummel once again had a top five showing for the Hokies, throwing the shot put a season best distance of 54'06.75. Necciai took fifth place in the 800 with a 1:51.84. That time is almost six seconds better than the previous season best for Tech. Frank DiPadova had a solid 400 time with a 49.86, good for ninth place. The men and women combined had ten season best performances. The meet had 12 schools competing and was not scored. The Hokies track and field team returns to action next Saturday at home for the Virginia Tech Challenge. That is the last meet before the BIG EAST Championships take place the following weekend. |
