Jullien Named Division I Athlete of the Week
Freshman ranks third in the nation in the weight throw
| February 27, 2003 LISLE, Ill. - Freshman Spyridon Jullien of the Virginia Tech men's track and field team has been named the Division I Athlete of the Week, as announced by the United States Track Coaches Association. Jullien, a native of Athens, Greece, captured first place in the 35-pound weight throw at the 2003 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend. His throw of 71-03.25 broke the conference meet record and vaulted him to third in the nation. Jullien was named the Men's Most Outstanding Field Athlete at the BIG EAST meet. Jullien will next compete at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, which will be held March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark. An eight-member panel chooses the award winner from nominations submitted by coaches. The panel is made up of writers from across the country. |
