Sadosky Qualifies for NCAA Meet

Sophomore track standout sets new school record in 1,500-meters.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Cas Sadosky, a member of the Virginia Tech women's track and field team set a new school record in the 1,500-meter run and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship meet Saturday at the Weems Baskin Sprint Relays.

Sadosky, a sophomore from West Chester, Pa., ran a time of 4:04.01. The time for an automatic qualifying performance in the 1,500-meters is 4:18.00. Sadosky broke the previous school record of 4:27.80 set by Cheryl Tuosto in 1985. Jamie Weikle (Front Royal, Va.) finished third in the event with a time of 4:47.70. Beth Harding (Richmond, Va.) ran sixth with a time of 5:04.05 and Chelsea Alverson (Middletown, Va.) finished 10th with a time of 5:23.70.

Coach Lori Taylor's 4x400-meter relay team ran a time of 3:52.60 and finished fourth. Sophomore Denise Helm (Madison Heights, Va.) finished 10th in the long jump with a mark of 15'5". January Williams (Burke, Va.) finished 15th in discus with a mark of 114''04"

In other action at the Weems Baskin Sprint Relays, Tech's 4x1,200-meter relay team finished third with a time of 16:03.68. Dee O'Connell (Kunkletown, Pa.) finished seventh in the javelin throw with a mark of 117'08. Williams finished 12th in the event with a mark of 90'11.00".

Both the men's and women's track and field teams will be in action March 25-27 at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
