Hokies compete at Raleigh Relays
Hay and Vanloo qualify for the BIG EAST meet
March 31, 2002

The Virginia Tech track and field team spent their weekend on the campus of North Carolina State University for the 2002 Adidas Raleigh Relays. The meet is one of the premier outdoor meets with more than 3,000 athletes representing over 110 teams making up the field.

Damali Hay highlighted the meet for the Hokies. She finished 10th out of 113 participants in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.89, just off her school record of 11.80, which she set last year. Monique Vanloo had a solid performance, as well, with a time of 12.34, good for 34th place. Both times were BIG EAST qualifying times.

Christy Herman had the other conference qualifying mark on the women's side. She threw the discus 136'05", landing her in 18th place. Danielle Gaddy stepped up big in the 400 meter hurdles. Her time of 1:03.90 is the fourth best ever at Tech and earned her 16th place out of 81 athletes. Other notables include Jackie Nicholson (15.39 in the 100 meter hurdles), Lynette Hopkins (58.50 in the 400), and Shanea Thomas (16'10.75" in the long jump).

David Fritz was the lone BIG EAST qualifier for the men. He cleared 15'01" in the pole vault and finished in 11th place.

Complete results from the meet can be found on North Carolina State's athletics website, www.GoPack.com.

Tech track and field returns to action on April 6th with the USTCA Collegiate Series meet at Clemson University.
