Callan and Triesscheijn Complete Their Championship Competition
The Hokie women represented Virginia Tech and the ACC well

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Virginia Tech's women's track & field NCAA championship athletes, Kristen Callan and Saskia Triesscheijn, ended their outdoor season today at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex. Callan finished in the top-10 of the hammer throw finals while Triesscheijn placed 22nd in the heptathlon.
Callan (So., Monroe, N.Y.) threw the hammer 196'2" (59.79m) to grab 10th place out of the 12 thrower-field of the finals. Callan, an All-ACC member in the hammer, was the only ACC athlete to compete in the finals. Loree Smith (Colorado State) won the NCAA title by throwing the hammer 224'8" (68.47m).
Triesscheijn (Jr., Berlin, Germany) finished the heptathlon in 22nd place with a point total of 5,094. In today's action, she placed 13th (603 points) in flight one of the long jump with a mark of 16'11.25" (5.16m). She then recorded a mark of 128'4" (39.11m) to clinch second place (650 points) in flight one of the javelin throw. In the final event of the heptathlon, she ran the 800 meters in a time of 2:25.94 for an eighth place showing in section one. Triesscheijn concludes the outdoor season as an NCAA championship and regional qualifier and an All-ACC selection in the event. Lela V. Nelson (Eastern Michigan) captured the heptathlon national championship by earning 5,878 points.
