SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Hokie assistant cross country and distance coach, Mary Jayne Harrelson, finished in 10^th place overall in the women's 1,500 meters preliminary race on Friday night and advances to the finals at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team Trials held at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento.

Harrelson (Roxboro, N.C.) ran the semifinals in 4:16.10 to claim fifth place in the 12 runner field of her heat and 10^th place overall. Marla Runyan (NIKE) won heat two and the preliminaries with a time of 4:09.63.

The top 15 semifinal runners, which includes the top five runners in each heat plus the next five fastest, advance to the women's 1,500m final on Sunday starting at 5 p.m. pacific time.

Harrelson hopes to place in the top three in the finals with the Olympic "A" standard to be named on the U.S. Olympic roster and compete in Athens.
