Tech's Ollendick Chosen for NCAA Postgraduate Honor

Former track and field star receives $5,000 towards graduate school.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech All-American Katie Ollendick added to her list of accomplishments on Wednesday as the NCAA awarded her a postgraduate scholarship in the amount of $5,000.

Ollendick is one of 27 athletes nationwide to be honored with the scholarship. The Blacksburg, Va., earned All-America honors in the high jump at this year's NCAA indoor and outdoor championships. In addition, she was tabbed GTE Academic All-America for the second straight year. Ollendick was also voted GTE Academic Athlete of the Year for spring sports.

Ollendick, who graduated in May with a double major in human nutrition and exercise physiology, will begin her graduate study in physical therapy this fall at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

"Katie exemplifies what a true student-athlete should aspire to be," said Tech head track coach Lori Taylor. "Her accomplishments are a tribute to her hard work in the classroom and on the field of play.
