Hokies Sign Top PA Pole Vaulter
Jared Jodon commits to Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech track and field program has announced the signing of Jared Jodon to a National Letter of Intent for the 2006-07 year.

Jodon, a native of Uniontown, Pa., is a senior at Laurel Highlands High School and will compete in the pole vault event at Tech. He is the top returning pole vaulter in the state. Jodon is also tied for the eighth-best mark among returning high school student-athletes with a vault of 16'0.00".

A member of the National Honor Society, Jodon carries a 3.82 GPA and has been involved with the Interact Club, Habitat for Humanity and Hurricane Katrina relief. He is a four-year letterman in track and a three-year letterman in football.

"We are very excited about landing one of the top pole vaulters in the nation," Dave Cianelli, Director of Track and field said. "Jared will join an outstanding pole vault team here at Virginia Tech. Under the tutelage of Coach Bob Phillips, Jared will quickly become a national-level qualifier."

Jodon is the son of Thomas and Lynn Jodon of Uniontown, Pa.
