Meredith Brooks Posts Top-Ten Finish
Clauss places 11th in the 3,000m steeplechase

DURHAM, N.C. - Meredith Brooks recorded Virginia Tech's top finish Saturday afternoon at the Duke Invitational.
Brooks crossed the line in 2:10.15 in the 800m seeded race for an eighth-place finish. Her time was just off her personal best and less than half of a second slower than a regional qualifying mark. Heather Mullis was 16th in the event, finishing in 2:12.34. Freshman Tasmin Fanning had a time of 2:15.09 for 32nd place. Samantha Ference garnered a time of 2:18.18.
On the men's side, Rider Clauss and Bryan McVey each competed in the 3,000m steeplechase for the first time during their Tech careers. Clauss had a personal-best time of 9:15.24 for 11th place. McVey crossed the line in a best of 10:05.28 for 33rd.
In the 800m event, Alexander Johnson had Tech's best time, finishing in 1:55.28. Kyle Guglielmo crossed the line in 1:56.79. Chris Padilla and Derrick Robbins both finished in under 2:00.00. Chris Padilla recorded a time of 1:58.10 while Robbins had a time of 1:59.10. Jason Vick and Phillip Padilla were close behind their teammates. Vick crossed in 2:00.24 while Phillip Padilla finished in 2:00.57.
The Hokies return to action Apr. 14-15 when they travel to the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.
