GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference named Virginia Tech's Brittany Pryor as its Women's Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Week on Tuesday after she qualified for the NCAA East Regional in two events at the Wake Forest Open this past weekend.
On Friday, she placed second behind teammate Ciera Ayangbile in the shot put with a throw of 16.34m (53'7.5"), a mark that would be the new school record had Ayangbile not bested her by .22m. On Saturday, she set the new Tech record in the discus, missing her personal record by one centimeter with her second-place toss of 50.41m (165'5").
Pryor (R-So., Niagara Falls, N.Y.) also had great success in the shot put during the recently completed indoor season that saw the Hokies capture the women's ACC Championship. Throughout the season, she registered the new indoor school record, won the individual ACC title, and placed seventh at the NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors.
Pryor became the first-ever female to win ACC Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week honors. Other Tech track and field athletes to claim a conference weekly award this year include Tasmin Fanning (twice - cross country on 9/4/06; and indoor on 2/19/07) and Idikoro Eradiri (once - indoor on 2/19/07).
Pryor and the rest of the Hokies will travel to Columbia, S.C., this Saturday to take part in the Weems Baskin Relays.
