CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Sophomore Kristi Castlin reset her 100-meter hurdle school record with a first-place performance of 12.81 seconds to lead the Virginia Tech track & field team at the Hurricane Invitational on Saturday in Cobb Stadium.

Castlin, along with classmate Queen Harrison took first and second place with personal-best performances in the 100-meter hurdles. Castlin beat her previous school record and personal best in the event by .01 seconds, with a 12.81-second effort to claim first place. Harrison crossed the finish line just .02 seconds later to take second place with a 12.83-second effort. Harrison's previous personal-best time was 12.98 seconds. Sherlenia Green made her 2008 debut for the Hokies with a fifth-place time of 13.20 seconds.

Harrison and Green also combined to take two of the top four places in the 400-meter dash. Harrison, a native of Richmond, Va., registered a second-place finish with a time of 54.35 seconds. Green came through with a fourth-place finish in 55.19 seconds. Patrice Potts rounded out the Hokies' presence in the top 10 with a 10th-place finish in 56.66 seconds. Shakirra Pinnock ran the race in 57.23 seconds for 13th place, while Britni Spruill finished 29th in 59.76 seconds.

Asia Washington earned a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.62. Castlin followed with a 10th-place finish in a time of 1:04.11.

Tech's 4x400-meter relay of Washington, Green, Pinnock, and Castlin finished fourth with a time of 3:40.60.

Tech's freshmen pole vault tandem of Joe Davis and Jared Jodon took two of the top three spots, while representing the Hokies' men's team at the Wake Forest Open in Kentner Stadium on Saturday.

Davis took first place with a 16'6.75" (5.05m) effort, which finished 7.75 inches ahead of the runner-up. The Sarasota, Fla., native was just four inches shy of his personal best. Jodon finished third with a height of 15'11 (4.85m), and was just 3.75 inches short of tying his personal record.

Representing the men's team at the Hurricane Invitational, Cedric Hudson took an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a 21'9" (6.63m) mark. Hudson also competed in the 200-meter dash, and turned in a 17th-place finish in 22.61 seconds.

Ebenezer Amegashie made his outdoor debut for the Hokies in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, and came through with an effort of 56.90 seconds that finished in seventh place.

The Hokies will once again split their squad next weekend between the Raleigh Relays next Friday and Saturday, and the Weems Baskins Relays on Saturday in Columbia, N.C.
