The impressive Tech showing on the first day of the meet was led by the women's 4x1,500-meter relay. The team of Natalie Sherbak, Jessica Fanning, Kelly Clark, and Tasmin Fanning took first place in the event by completing the race in a school-record pace of 18:17.40. The quartet also qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championships. The team broke the previous school record set last season by more than four seconds, 18:22.65.
Erin Reddan finished fifth for Tech in the seeded section of the event on the women's side with a personal-best time of 16:51.57, which qualified for the regional championships.
The Hokie men's team of Chris Padilla, Eddie Judge, Chris Walizer, and Rider Clauss turned in a seventh-place finish in 15:54.55.
Junior distance runner Billy Berlin took first place in the third section of the 5,000-meter race with a personal-best time of 14:50.31. Teammate Matt Kroetch followed Berlin with a ninth-place finish after completing the race in 15:19.59. Zach Thomas registered a personal-best performance for a fourth-place finish in the second section of the event in 14:50.52.
In the 400-meter dash, Jeff Miller took 63rd place with a time of 50.48 seconds, while Nick McLaughlin placed 77th in a time of 50.93 seconds.
In addition to the second day of the adidas Raleigh Relays, the Hokies will also compete at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C., and the Liberty Asics Collegiate Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
