Olhovsky wins pole vault at Duke Invite

DURHAM, N.C. - Sophomore Yavgeniy Olhovsky won the pole vault to highlight the No. 27 Virginia Tech men's track & field team at the Duke Invitational on Saturday in Durham, N.C.
Olhovsky, a sophomore from Petah-Tikya, Israel, cleared a height of 17'5" (5.31m) to take first place by over a foot over the nearest competitor, which qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championships later this season.
For the No. 3 women's team, Brittany Pryor led the way by winning the discus with a season-best mark of 164'0" (50.00m), and Erika Schroeder took seventh place with a mark of 147'11" (45.08m) in her season debut in the event. Schroeder then placed second in the shot put with a season-best mark of 47'4.5" (14.44m).
Justin Clickett placed second in the shot put with a mark of 60'2" (18.34m), and Igor Misljenovic finished fifth at 53'11.25" (16.44m). Misljenovic took the runner-up honors in the discus with a personal-best distance of 163'10" (49.94m).
Billy Berlin placed seventh in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:53.24, followed by Ryan Witt's 1:54.03 performance that took 11th place. Eddie Judge crossed the finish line 13th with a time of 1:54.18, Jeff Miller finished 16th in 1:54.25, James Scheiner finished 21st with a time of 1:55.09, and Nick McLaughlin rounded out the Tech effort with a time of 1:58.13 for 37th place.
Tasmin Fanning led Tech in the women's 800-meter dash with a time of 2:12.35, followed immediately by Natalie Sherbak, who finished in 12th place with a personal-best time of 2:12.75. Jessica Fanning turned in a personal-best time with a time of 2:13.18 to finish 14th, Kristy Tobin turned in a 25th-place finish with a time of 2:17.86, Jackie Merrick followed in 28th place with a time of 2:18.36, and Erin Reddan earned 35th place with a time of 2:20.08.
The Hokies also competed today at the Murray Neely Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. Full results and a complete recap will be posted when available.
