BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Queen Harrison was named the USTFCCCA's Southeast Region Track Performer of the Year as the No. 4 Virginia Tech women's track & field team earned three Southeast Region Awards, the organization announced Monday. Director of Track & Field Dave Cianelli was named the region's Women's Head Coach of the Year, while Lawrence Johnson was named the Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.

Harrison set NCAA East Regional Championship records in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles to take first place in both events with school-record efforts of 12.70 and 54.69 seconds, respectively. Harrison also won the 400-meter hurdle title at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships and was the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles. The Richmond, Va., native owns the nation's fastest 400-meter hurdle time heading into the NCAA Championships. Harrison also led off the school-record-breaking 4x400-meter relay that took second place at the regional meet with a time of 3:32.05, which stands as the fourth-best time in the country. Harrison is also a member of the 4x100-meter relay that placed fourth at the NCAA East Regional and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Championships with a time of 44.56 seconds, set in the regional's preliminary heats.

Cianelli has won two consecutive Southeast Region Coach of Year honors after leading the Hokies to their second straight NCAA East Regional Championship. Cianelli has guided 12 women who have qualified for Wednesday's NCAA Championships in 10 events. In his seventh season as director of track and field and cross country at Tech, Cianelli has also led the Hokie women's team to two straight ACC Indoor and Outdoor championships. As a result, Cianelli has won the last four ACC Coach of the Year awards, earning the league's top coach honor for both indoor and outdoor seasons in each of the last two years.

Johnson, in his fourth season at Tech, repeated as Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year by guiding Tech's sprinters and hurdlers to help them claim both the conference and regional championships for the second straight season. With Johnson's tutelage, Harrison is ranked first nationally in the 400-meter hurdles and second in the 100-meter hurdles, and both of Tech's relay teams will run at the NCAA Championships. Additionally, three of his student-athletes qualified in the 400-meter hurdles.

The 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa will be held Wednesday through Saturday.
