Castlin, Lomnicky claim titles in final day of East Regional
Freshman Marcel Lomnicky posted a victory for Tech on the Saturday after throwing a 232-05 in the hammer throw. Lomnicky, a native of Nitra, Slovakia, capped off a stellar showing on the day and posted 10 points for the Hokies.
On the women's side, junior Kristi Castlin captured the title in the women's 100-meter hurdles. The Douglasville, Ga., native clocked a 12.89 en route to the regional championship. Castlin will compete in her third straight NCAA Championships in two weeks.
Meanwhile, Sophomore Hunter Hall scored a third place finish in pole vault action. The sophomore tallied six team points with his 16-11 showing in the finals. Junior Yavgeniy Olhovsky won a jump off to take fifth and also automatically qualify for the national meet. The Petah-tivka, Israel native cleared 17-03 in the event.
Senior Brittany Pryor and sophomore Dorotea Habazin won the women's discus and hammer throw, respectively, on Friday to bring the total number of Hokie regional champions to four. Pryor tossed a 171-01 in the discus, while Habazin recorded a 207-11 in the hammer throw.
