Tech women earn best outdoor finish in team history
Seven Hokies achieve All-America honors at the meet

Track & Field at NCAA National Championships
Women 12th; Men 16th

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s track and field squads both earned top-20 finishes to cap off the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday.

The Hokie women registered 12th place at the national meet with 18 points, marking the highest finish by the Virginia Tech women’s track and field squad in its history at the outdoor meet. The Tech men finished 16th at the meet, racking up 14.50 points. The finish was the squad’s best since tying for 12th in 2006. In all, seven Hokies earned All-America accolades at the meet.

Junior Kristi Castlin placed second in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a 13.15. The runner-up finish marked Castlin’s best performance in the 100-meter hurdles at the national meet and fifth All-America honor in her career. Castlin’s previous best in the 100-meter hurdles at the national meet came in a ninth-place, All-America effort in 2007.

In the women’s discus throw, senior Brittany Pryor capped off her illustrious Tech career with an 11th-place showing. Pryor, who earned All-America honors on Friday in the hammer throw, tossed a 155-06.

“It was an outstanding meet,” Tech Director of Track and Field Dave Cianelli said. “I was really happy both teams were able to finish in the top 20. That was our goal coming into the meet. To finish 12th and 16th, it is great to be counted as one of the top programs in the country.”

Texas A&M claimed the NCAA team championship on both the women’s and the men’s side. The Aggie women totaled 50 points, while the men tallied 48.
