VICK A 1999 DAVEY O'BRIEN FINALIST
Moore isn't the only Tech player getting individual attention. Quarterback Michael Vick was named one of 10 finalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award presented annually to the top college quarterback in the nation.
Vick was the only freshman among the 25 semifinalists. He joins Texas' Major Applewhite, Purdue's Drew Brees, Kevin Feterik of Brigham Young, Joe Hamilton of Georgia Tech, Tennessee's Tee Martin, Marshall's Chad Pennington, Tim Rattay of Louisiana Tech, Chris Redman of Louisville, and Florida State's Chris Weinke as finalists.
Vick has completed 79 of 139 passes for 1,550 yards and nine touchdowns, with just five interceptions this season. He's also rushed for 509 yards on 92 carries and seven touchdowns. He recently became the first Tech quarterback to rush for seven touchdowns in a season since David Lamie turned the trick in 1977.
On the season, Vick has accounted for 2,059 yards of total offense. That ranks seventh on the school's single-season list. The winner of the award will be announced on the 1999 Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. on ESPN. The winner and two runners-up will be honored at the O'Brien Award Dinner on Feb. 21 at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
