VICK PLAY OF THE YEAR
Hokie Huddler
Vick has made so many amazing plays this season. In picking Tech's play of the year, one almost must break the plays of the year up into two categories - Vick's plays of the year and the rest of the plays of the year.
Last season, Tech finished with just 11 plays of more than 40 yards and just seven of more than 50. But this season, Tech finished with 22 plays of 40 yards or more. Vick had a hand in 16 of those plays - 11 by throwing and five by running. Tech finished with 15 plays of more than 50 yards, with receiver André Davis catching five touchdown passes from Vick of more than 50 yards. At his press luncheon the Tuesday before the Boston College game, Tech head coach Frank Beamer was asked which of Vick's plays was his favorite.
"I'm looking forward to the next one," he laughed. And then he added, "I think the most amazing one was in the Syracuse game when we had the little pitch back."
In the second quarter of Tech's 62-0 win, Tech ran a flea-flicker play, with tailback Shyrone Stith pitching the ball back to Vick. Vick nearly got sacked, but managed to get the ball to receiver André Davis for a 23-yard gain to the Syracuse 9. A play later, Vick threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Hall, which gave the Hokies a 21-0 lead.
"He had a guy in his face and he made that guy miss," Beamer said. "He started moving to his right - he's a left-handed quarterback - and has another guy in his face. He stopped and threw the ball off-balance down the field to André Davis on a rope.
"To be able to do all those things, it's just one heckuva play. There's not many people in this country who can do that."
