Women's Volleyball Drops Opener to Cavaliers, 3-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia Tech volleyball team, starting with four new faces, opened its 1999 season with a 3-0 (15-10, 15-8, 15-10) loss to Virginia Wednesday night at University Hall before 333 spectators.

Tech was led by junior outside hitter Kristin Wright (Hurt, Va.) who posted 10 kills and hit .269 for the match. Senior setter Britton Julian (Camden, S.C.), who didn't start due to injury, recorded 18 assists for the Hokies. Freshmen Ana Lang (Cuba, N.Y.) and Cheryl Stinson (Ottawa, Ontario) had 11 and ten digs, respectively.

The Hokies open home play this weekend when they host the Virginia Lottery Hokie Classic Friday and Saturday. Tech plays Kentucky Friday night at 7 and then plays two matches on Saturday. The Hokies will play Villanova at Noon and take on Northern Illinois at 7 p.m.
