BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech volleyball freshman Allie Kupec was named BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the Week for her efforts in the 2003 Hokie Classic.

Kupec, a freshman from Columbia, Md., tallied 13 kills, a game-high five block assists and hit a sparkling .524 in her first collegiate start against Miami University. The 6-1 middle hitter finished the three-match weekend with 26 kills, a .537 hitting percentage, seven service aces, 11 digs, 13 total blocks and was named to the all-tournament team.

Katherine Whitney from Seton Hall shared the honor with Kupec.

Virginia Tech, the winner of the Hokie Classic, return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 2, when it travels to Charlotte, N.C., for a 7 p.m. match against the 49ers.
