PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the second time this season, freshman Melissa Markowski has been named BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the Week for volleyball. Markowski was also honored as one of the conference's top newcomers on Sept. 17.

For the week of Sept. 23-29, Markowski recorded 105 assists, 15 kills on 34 attempts with only one error for a hitting percentage of .412. She also added seven services aces, 12 digs and two block assists as the Hokies began BIG EAST play with a 2-0 record.

Saturday against Providence, the Glen Ellyn, Ill., native recorded 42 assists, six kills on 14 attempts with only one error for a hitting percentage of .357, six service aces, four digs and one block assist. Against the Eagles of Boston College, she had a career-high 63 assists, nine kills on 20 attempts with no errors for an attack percentage of .450. She also had one service ace, eight digs and one block assist.

The Hokies continue BIG EAST play this weekend as they take on Georgetown at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Washington, D.C. Tech then travels to Villanova to take on the Wildcats at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
