Markowski Named First Team Academic All-District
Setter named to squad for second year in a row

BLACKSBURG - Junior setter Melissa Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) first team of this year's Academic All-District III in the university division for volleyball, as announced Thursday morning.
She now advances to the Academic All-America ballot that will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 12.
It is the second year in a row for Markowski, who was named to the Academic All-District third team in 2003. The human nutrition, foods and exercise major was one of six players named to the first team and the only player from the Atlantic Coast Conference on the first team.
So far this season, she leads the Hokies with 1,160 assists, is averaging 11.84 assists per game and has played in all 98 of Tech's 98 games. She is currently in third place all-time at Tech with 3,778 career assists.
Markowski is also third on the team in 2004 with 254 digs and sixth on the team with 13 service aces. She also has 43 block assists this season and 46 total blocks.
The Hokies return to the court on Friday, Nov. 12, when they host the Blue Devils of Duke at 7 p.m., at Cassell Coliseum, before heading to Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 13, for their final regular season ACC match of the year at 6 p.m.
