Disser Honored For Classroom Work
Hokie volleyball player now eligible for Academic All-America honors

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Holly Disser, a senior on the Virginia Tech women's volleyball team has been named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District III Second Team.

Disser is a science of human nutrition, foods and exercise major and carries a 3.69 overall GPA. Her academic accomplishments include being named to the Dean's List for five of her six semesters, as well as the Virginia Tech Athletic Director's Honor Roll for seven consecutive semesters. She has received BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team honors and been named to the Virginia Tech All-Academic Team for the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 academic years. She is also the Dean's Ambassador for the College of Human Resources and Education, a National Society of Collegiate Scholars member, a Golden Key National Honor Society member and a Gamma Beta Phi Society at VT member.

Despite struggling through a persistent back injury and having chicken pox, the Overland Park, Kan., native had a productive year for the Hokies. Through 55 games, she is third on the team with 174 kills, second with 3.16 kills per game and has a .193 hitting percentage. Defensively, Disser tallied 135 digs, is second for the Hokies with 2.45 digs per game and registered 19 blocks.

With the honor, Disser now becomes eligible for Academic All-America honors.

The Hokies wrap up their season in Orlando, Fla., when they participate in the University of Florida Volleyball Challenge. Tech will face the seventh-ranked Gators of Florida on Friday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m., and Louisiana State University on Saturday, Nov. 24, at noon.
