Tech Defeated by Oregon State at Hilton Classic
Esbrook has 13 kills and .500 hitting percentage

Fort Collins, Colo. - Despite junior Katie Esbrook's (Lake In The Hills, Ill.) 13 kills and .500 hitting percentage, the Virginia Tech volleyball team lost to the Oregon State Beavers 3-0 in the first game of the Hilton Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.
The Hokies lost by scores of 30-27, 30-21 and 30-24. Although Tech held a 20-19 advantage in kills in the first game, Oregon State rallied back to out-kill the Hokies 18-6 in game two and 16-12 in game three.
Esbrook also had a team-leading five block assists. Senior Melissa Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was strong, with 31 assists, seven digs, and three kills.
Sophomore Amanda Cloyd (Muncie, Ind.) led the team with nine digs. Freshman Sarah Muņoz (Encinitas, Calif.) continued her tough play, with seven kills, seven digs and four blocks (one solo).
Sophomore Jen Albrecht (Canandaigua, N.Y.) had six klls, with four digs.
For the Beavers, Katelyn Healey had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Kristin Murray was also in double figures in kills, with 11. Karah Rho had 11 digs.
Virginia Tech will face a tough test on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Hilton Classic. The Hokies play Colorado State at 2 p.m. and UC Irvine at 7 p.m. Colorado State had been ranked 22nd in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason poll before dropping out last week after starting the season 1-3.
