RALEIGH, N.C. - The Virginia Tech volleyball team recorded its 14th win of the season for the first time since 2002 with a 3-0 (30-26, 30-20, 30-17) sweep over NC State Friday night. The Hokies attack hit a season-best .311 for the win, boosting their overall record to 14-9, 8-6 in the ACC, while the Wolfpack dropped to 2-19 overall, 0-12 in conference action.
Freshman Taylor Parrish led the Hokies, posting her third consecutive double-double, seventh this season, landing a match-high 13 kills with 12 digs. Senior Katie Esbrook was close behind with a .450 hitting percentage, knocking down 12 kills.
Junior Amanda Cloyd led the defense with a match-high 15 digs and placed three service aces for the Hokies. Sophomore Sarah Muņoz contributed 12 digs, while freshman Michelle Lang dished out 42 assists.
For NC State, Jessica Williams led the way with 11 kills, while Allison Davis dished out 27 assists and Andrea Bentley picked up 13 digs.
Senior Allie Kupec and Parrish combined to lead the Hokies through game one as Kupec hit .750 and Parrish pounded seven kills. A slow start forced Tech to play catch-up until tying the game at 7-7, but a 6-2 run at 21-20, in favor of the Hokies, put Tech up 27-22.
NC State fought to keep-up, but at 28-25, Parrish landed two kills in the next three points to give Tech a game one win, 30-26.
Tech came out strong in game two, fighting for a 15-9 lead, before extending it to eight at 19-11. NC State fought to cut the lead to five at 20-15, but a strong Tech offense, hitting .308 for the game, kept the Pack from coming back as they cruised to a 30-20 win.
The two squads battled for an early game three lead, forcing seven tie scores before three kills from Esbrook in four points broke open an even game at 15-15 putting the Hokies up 19-16. From there, Tech went on a 13-1 run, resulting in a 30-17 match win.
The Hokies will return home for a Friday night match against Boston College, at 7 p.m., and a Saturday evening match against Maryland, at 6 p.m.
