Hokies open season with a 3-1 win over William & Mary

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech and William & Mary volleyball teams opened their season's and the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational facing one another. Despite a slow start and scrappy play to begin the day, Tech scrambled for just over two hours for the 3-1 win over the Tribe.

Sophomore preseason All-ACC selection Taylor Parrish led the Hokies attack with her 11th career double-double, with 19 kills and 19 digs. Senior Amanda Cloyd led the defense with 26 digs and freshman Felicia Willoughby played outstanding at the net, collecting 11 total blocks.

Sophomore Michelle Lang dished out 42 assists in the win.

The Hokies finished the match hitting .130, while Tech's defense held the Tribe to a .025 attack percentage.

Lindsay Fflugner led William & Mary's attack with 13 kills and Cassie Crumal handed out 50 assists.

Tech will return to action this evening at 7 p.m., facing Virginia Commonwealth before concluding tournament play Saturday night.
