BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech volleyball team got itself back on a winning note with a 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-27) victory over Florida State Friday evening in Cassell Coliseum. The win marks only the second victory over the Seminoles in 19 previous meetings, while it was also the Hokies' first conference win this season.

Sophomore Taylor Parrish paced Tech with her ninth double-double this season, with a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs. Senior Amanda Cloyd led four Hokies in double-figure digs, collecting a match-high 17. Sophomore Jill Gergen contributed 13, while freshman Amy Wengrenovich picked up 10.

Sophomore Michelle Lang dished out 33 assists and stopped six Seminole attacks. Junior Kristen Cunningham blocked five and freshman Felicia Willoughby hit .318 with nine kills and four blocks.

For the Seminoles, Jackie BonSalle landed 13 kills and Summer Weissing dug 15 balls. Lauren Rosenthal dished out 46 assists.

Despite being out-hit 18 kills to 12 in game one, the Hokies took advantage of five Seminole missed serves, en route to a 30-26 victory.

Strong serving from Parrish helped the Hokies open game two with a 7-3 advantage. From there, Florida State couldn't score more than two consecutive points and the Hokies used a five-point run to push ahead 15-8, leading to a 30-24 win.

The two squads came out in game three neck-in-neck. In a game featuring 12 tie scores, including a tie game at 24, 25 and 27, Willoughby knocked down her ninth kill of the game to put Tech up 28-27 before Wengrenovich landed an ace to put Tech one point away from the match. A Florida State attack error put the Hokies on top 30-27.

Tech (7-6, 1-2 ACC) will return to action Fri., Sept. 28 for a 7 p.m., match at Clemson.
