    Hamsher and Caine named to AVCA All-Region Team
    Hokies earn east coast regional accolades

    BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior middle blocker Victoria Hamsher and junior right side Kathryn Caine continue to rack up the accolades, earning 2013 AVCA All-East Coast Region honors as announced on Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

    Hamsher was tabbed a 2013 All-ACC First Team honoree after recording an attack percentage of .405 on the season to lead the ACC and rank 21st in the NCAA. The mark places her first in Tech’s single season records. In addition, Hamsher averaged 2.66 kills per set, tallied 21 aces and 73 blocks. Hamsher recorded double-digit kills 18 times this season, including a career-high 19 versus Florida State. The Nazareth, Pa. native was the top vote recipient in the middle blocker category, earning 28 points.

    Caine was named to the 2013 All-ACC Third Team after recording 2.47 kps for the Hokies this season while hitting .339 on the attack to place fifth in the ACC. She hit double-digit kills in 13 matches and had a career-high 17 kills at Virginia. The McLean, Va. native was second on the team in blocks with 78 this season. In the outside hitter/right side category, Caine picked up 19 points in the voting.

    Duke led the 14-person team with four honorees while Marquette placed three on the team. Tech and North Carolina had two each with College of Charleston, Notre Dame and St. John’s with one recipient each.
